Comparative Study of Energy Savings for Various Control Strategies in the Tunnel Lighting System

Tunnel lighting is the most significant component in total energy consumption whole infrastructure. Hence, various control strategies based on light-emitting diode (LED) technology have been investigated to conserve by decreasing luminaires’ operating time. In this study, four kinds of tunnel and development their associated technologies are evaluated: no-control low-consumption lamps (LCL), time-scheduling strategy (TSCS), daylight adaptation (DACS), intelligent (ICS). This work investigates relationship between initial investment electrical costs as a function length (L) daily traffic volume (N) for strategies. The analysis was performed using 100-day data collected eleven Chinese tunnels. ranged from 600 m 3300 700 2500. results showed that increase with L all Also, electricity LCL, TSCS, DACS increased linearly L, whereas cost ICS has an exponential growth N. lifetime equal or shorter than 218 days, LCL offered best economical solution; longer 955 solution. For suitable varies volume. study’s can guide decision-making process during system’s design stage.
